One of our EasternTea.com writers, TW Lim, visited the beautiful scenic town of Yufuin, a place famous for its hot springs and hospitality. He visited the Yufuin Modern Art Museum and found it to be extremely educational and was entranced by the wonderful collection of modern Japanese art.

The Museum was started in 1993 to display the paintings of Japanese artists and Japanese folkart. Paintings by modern artists such as Fukuda Heihachiro, and nearly 150 pieces of Japanese porcelain by Itaya Hazan other ceramic artists are displayed. It is open from 9:00 am in the morning to 6.00 pm in the evening.

Another museum belonging to the same owner is Yufuin Museum located at 2655 Kawakami, Yufuin-cho, Oita-gun, Oita Pref., 879-5102 0977-85-5078. The Museum was started in 1994 and displays antique wood prints, swords, books, cameras etc as well as Japanese tea ceremony utencils. It is opened at the same time as the modern art museum from 9 in the morning till 6:00 pm.

Near the museum is an art gallery operated by the wife of the owner of the museum. Many exquisite antique pieces may be purchased here for good prices. The writer is honoured to meet the wife of the owner of the art gallery (also the owner of the Yufuin Museum and Modern art museum).
